Picture Update

Tried to write blog three times this week. Things came up in between so it never got down. Now I'm just going to load pictures.

Made a trip up to Michigan to talk to the local club, mainly juniors about cycling and my experiences as this is where I started. We did a spin class and watched the spring cycling season at Marian of my freshman year. So funny for me, but maybe confusing to others.

On the way back from the spin class my father and I stopped by a cemetery where a lot of my ancestry's are buried. I've been doing some researching lately on my family history/tree. It's been pretty interesting so far.

From there I headed over to Jack's Bicycle Shop. It's only the best shop around.

On the way over I saw the river was frozen, but the real cool thing is how it froze when the water level was much higher. You can see the ice still stuck around the trees where the water level was once earlier in the season. Since then it has dropped.

On the way back to Indy I stopped off in Ohio to pick up some new team stuff. Mainly the clothes and the bike, so basically the best things. Here's are bike.

Still have to ride it outside as when I returned the following day it started to snow and it dumped just about 13" of snow in the area. Just so happens to be the sixth heaviest snow fall for Indianapolis. Just another great element in what has been a fantastically bad winter. Pictures are of Lucy playing in the snow, and of a training road even impassible by mountain bike.

Sing Along

I went to Walmart the other day and I don't know if it was just me or the fact that I was there for a good amount of time but it seemed like every 3 minutes over the intercom you would here, "We will, we will, rock you!" One of a number of great songs by Queen, but just this section repeatedly got annoying. But this wasn't the most annoying part, well at least for me. Every single aisle I went down there would be a kid repeating the same line of the song over and over. I'm pretty sure by the end of the day the parents of kids come out more annoyed then I do.

Unfortunately for me though it didn't end there. The following day I just so happened to be teaching Kindergarten for the first time and during some work what does one table start to sing in uni sine, you guessed it, "We will, we will, rock you!" They must have been to Walmart recently or at least seen the commercial.

We did however finish the day by singing two kid classics, a song about a dog named BINGO, and a farmer E-I-E-I-O.

Now onto that bike riding thing I do. We had a blast in Knoxville. Dirk Polman of Texas Roadhouse took us around and on Sunday we were joined with a few of his riding buddies including Tom (one of his neighbors who I stayed with). Everything went great, well except for the first night when the heat went out and I couldn't figure out why I needed my coat on while watching tv in the morning. 55 degrees inside is pretty chilly.

Dirk took us on an awesome ride to the foothills of the Smokies. It's just awesome there. Of course I wanted to to hit a serious climb, while others were hesitant. So luckily enough for me one of his buddies who is also named Jake took myself and Rob up Happy Valley Rd, also known as the wall. No doubt this was the steepest climb I've down since Brasstown last March. It felt awesome getting some sweet climbing in again.

This weekend it's off in the opposite direction to Michigan for a talk to some local Juniors on cyclng. I'm looking forward to sharing some great stories of being on the road, and also my experience as a collegiate cyclist. I'm also looking to riding on the Saginaw Bay off of Lake Huron. Should be a blast. I'm also hoping to pick up my new team bike and riding kit!!

Warmth

Today I'm taking off with my teammate Chad and headed south for some warmth over the holiday weekend. We're heading to Knoxville, TN just so we can enjoy some nice warm riding in the upper 30's. I can't wait. Sure beats the -12 on the thermometer right now.

Blast to the Past

With out much going on and since watching a video of me on the rollers would be just as bad as riding I bring you this video from the past. It was at the Major Taylor Velodrome in Indianapolis for Collegiate Nationals in 2004

video

We finished 2nd overall. Not to bad considering the rocky start. The overall bad thing about the whole thing is that this is the best our team finished while I was at Marian. Not only that, but our four man team lost to a two man (technically 3 man, since you have to finish with 3) team. It was Penn State, maybe you heard of the riders, Bobby Lea and Mike Friedman.

Catch Up

Since my last serious post I have been to Ohio for a team get together and to Michigan for Christmas vacation. Needless to say I've been getting some serious sun.

Team pre-camp was awesome as we gathered at Kenda Tires headquarters. We were introduced to the two guys that have really made this team happen, Jim Wannamaker, and their road development man Stefano Lumbaca. We are getting some awesome support as they handed us some swag and we loaded a couple of vehicles with boxes upon boxes of tires, tubes, pumps, and such.

Along with that we took home a set of protype tires, and the rollers really seem to like them. But more seriously I am really excited to be riding and working with Kenda Tires this year as the tires seem to be really awesome, they are very supportive, and they will be putting us on the best possible tires possible.

I mentioned cars. Here is a photo of one of our new team cars all decalled up.

Along with the new tires I headed home with a car full of stuff including, new carbon bottle cages, 2 sets of featherlite breaks, Hincapie back pack and jacket, a set of lake racing shoes, casual shoes, and gloves, and some Kenda wheel bags. Pretty sweet getting hooked up with swag early on.

A couple of weeks later I headed up to Michigan for Christmas. It was good to see the family and I got to hang out with my good friend Pat. Nothing like catching up. I should go visit him and it wouldn't hurt that he's in Florida. After a few days of catching up and such Katie and I decided to head home early. Mainly me because the weather was warming in Indy and not so much in Michigan, and I really needed to do that whole bike racing practice thing. While it snowed in Michigan the next day I enjoyed some nice 50 degree weather.

Katie and I were fortunate enough to get a Wii for Christmas from her mom. It is pretty awesome, and it's all I've been doing since. The day after we got it I had to have played it for like 8hrs and I could hardly move my arm the next day. If finally gotten use to it and have no problems.

Oh yeah my father and I got a sweet paring knife for Christmas.

Some how my other brother got hooked up with the entire set!

Ok this blog is getting to long and I want to hang out with my wife. So I'll leave you with this piece of eye candy. It's are new team frame.

Update Please!

Why no updates in the past month? Well nothing significant has happened over the past month.

But now that a whole month has past I have enough things to gather for a blog entry.

Unfortunately for you, you are going to have to wait till tomorrow.
